The evening began with cocktails, music, food and fellowship as guests were welcomed to the second annual Beyond the Badge Gala. After a wonderfully prepared sit down dinner, guest welcomed key note speaker; SSA Brian Herrick from the FBI Cyber Crime Unit in Philadelphia. SSA Herrick along with Joe Pochron, Commanding Officer of the Officer David M. Petzold Digital Forensics Lab discussed the role of cyber crime in our country, our county, and in our own communities. The pinnacle point of the evening was the presentation of the “Beyond the Badge Award for Outstanding Community Service” to Gerard Cozzolino. Gerry has dedicated more than 40 years of service to the Upper Saucon Fire and Ambulance Corps and to Upper Saucon Township and surrounding areas. We are truly blessed to have people like Gerry working amongst us. The evening concluded with dancing and amazing music by Bigg Romeo! We hope all of you had a night to remember, we know that we did!

The Fifth Annual David M. Petzold Memorial Golf Tournament was held May 20, 2011 at Wedgewood Golf Course. It was a year of tradition AND for record breaking. In keeping with tradition, the weather did not necessarily cooperate, but the rainy day did nothing to dampen spirits. With record breaking support from all of our private and corporate sponsors and record participation of 216 golfers, this event was an overwhelming success. The Petzold Foundation thanks everyone for honoring Dave’s values of commitment to his community, education, and public service. Most importantly, we want to thank you for celebrating Dave’s life and keeping his memory alive in his family and friends. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year . All proceeds from this event will benefit the ongoing technological needs and requirements of the Officer David M. Petzold Digital Forensics Lab of Lehigh County along with other Foundation programs.

I am honored and humbled to accept the appointment as President of the Officer David M. Petzold Memorial Foundation. As David’s sister, and the Board Treasurer since the Foundations’ beginning, I have had the great pleasure of working with a dynamic team of people who dedicated a great deal of their time and energy to this organizations’ growth and success. Driven by our commitment to create a lasting tribute to David and his values, we have shaped the Foundation into an inspiring and contributing member of Lehigh County. I sincerely thank all of the past Board Members, Jessica Petzold-Slawter, Alison Mawson, Steven Petzold, Ed Harvey, Kimberly Fritts, and Tom Nicoletti for their personal sacrifice and commitment to creating a successful organization. Our commitment to this community is one that we all have taken very seriously. Dave may not be physically be here, but we all have the ability to continue working for the good of the community in his name and inspiring others to do the same.

As we move forward, there will be both some familiar and some new faces on the Board. They will bring new energy, enthusiasm and ideas to the Foundation and will be introduced to all of you soon. Currently, Tom Nicoletti has accepted the appointment as Vice President and Kimberly Fritts has accepted the role of Secretary. Please also join me also in welcoming Catherine Pochek as the newly appointed Board Treasurer.

We are all joined by a love for David. We are all extremely dedicated to honoring his memory by growing the Foundation into a lasting presence in Lehigh County. We will continue to fund the scholarships at Southern Lehigh High School and DeSales University which not only recognize academic achievement, but also outstanding community service. The Beyond the Badge gala event will annually recognize that one person can truly make a difference in the lives of others.

We are deeply committed to the success of the Officer David M. Petzold Digital Forensics Laboratory of Lehigh County. The Foundation’s continuing goal is to help this lab evolve into one of the top digital forensic laboratory’s in the country, serving our local community, protecting and educating our children, and promoting the values that David so firmly believed. A team of officers who are as dedicated as David, now work to solve and prevent crime and keep all of our citizens safe, especially our young people. We as a Foundation, work to ensure that this vital service has all the tools necessary to succeed.

In the months ahead, the Board will also focus on increasing our membership and bringing enthusiastic involvement into our programs and fundraisers. We will be addressing our long term financial goals to ensure that our mission can continue for years to come. The work of the founding members has put the Foundation in a position to be a lasting, positive, responsible member of Lehigh County and I am personally dedicated to its continued success. I look forward to working with all of you to ensure that the heartfelt mission set forth by the founders of this organization in loving memory and honor of Officer Dave continues to be fulfilled.

Sincerely,

Christine Ross

President

Officer David M. Petzold Memorial Foundation

The Officer David M. Petzold Beyond the Badge awards program was launched in 2010. The program salutes the unsung heroes who go the extra miles to help us through tough times and to recognize those individuals whose energy and vision make our community better. This award is to be presented to those among us who don’t hesitate to lend a hand with no expectation of reward or recognition. David Petzold was the quintessential example.

The Foundation is so excited about this award and the positive energy it can and has brought to this community. We would like to hear from you about who you would nominate for the 2011 “Beyond the Badge” award to be presented at the 2nd Annual Beyond the Badge Gala, to be held on the campus of DeSales University on November 5, 2011.

The criteria for nomination is as follows:

-Individuals that show leadership in the community, who during the past year have improved the quality of life in their own community or neighborhood

-For Police, Firefighter, or EMS technician whose on the job performance shows selflessness, honor and integrity

-For the youth of the community who show steadfast resolve for the community in which they live

-For the teachers, coaches and volunteers who have been positive adult role models and have prepared these youth for responsible citizenship.

Please submit nominations here. Tell us in 100 words or less why your nominee deserves the applause — nominate as many people as you would like. We look forward to hearing and sharing your stories.

After much heartfelt deliberation, I, Jessica Petzold-Slawter, have decided to leave the Officer David M. Petzold Memorial Foundation effective May 31st, 2011. The goals I had hoped to see completed with the Foundation are in place and now I will be focusing on my family.

I have the honor and pleasure of announcing the next Foundation President; Mrs. Christine Ross. Christine Ross has been a key part of the Foundation Board since the organization was founded in February 2008 and for the last 3 years as the Foundation Treasurer. She has committed time, energy and her heart to this organization, the people, the programs and causes. Christine assisted with the startup of the Foundation and has been thoroughly involved due to being the sister of Officer David Petzold and wanting to give back to a community that her brother loved.

Christine lives in West Chester, PA with her husband and their two children. Christine graduated from West Chester University with a B.S. in Accounting in 1993. In the years since then, she has worked in governmental, corporate, public and non-profit accounting.

Christine’s personal comments are: My personal goal for the Foundation is simple; to help make a difference in this community. I cannot affect lives exactly as David did, but through this Foundation, I will make every effort to positively enhance the lives of those within this community that my brother loved so much.

I know that with Christine at the head and the supportive Board aiding her, the Foundation will continue to achieve wonderful goals. Thank You from the bottom of my heart to all of our members, volunteers and supporters from the last three years! Please continue to support the Foundation and its valuable programs and events.

Sincerely,

Jessica Petzold-Slawter

On March 24th there will be a press conference at DeSales University where the grand opening of the Officer David M. Petzold Digital Forensics Laboratory of Lehigh County will be announced! This laboratory is the pinnacle of the hard work of the Foundation Board and the members of the Officer David M. Petzold Memorial Foundation, but it was the partnership of Lehigh County and DeSales University which made it a reality.

The Officer David M. Petzold Digital Forensics Laboratory of Lehigh County is located on the campus of DeSales University, in Center Valley Pennsylvania. This state of the art Computer Crime Lab will be instrumental to law enforcement agencies at the local and county level to assist in more efficiently and effectively completing electronic evidence collection, computer forensics, battling online child predators and investigating technology based crimes.

Officer Petzold would be proud.

On February 26th, the 5th Annual Officer David M. Petzold Soccer Tournament was held at DeSales University inside Billera Hall. With a total of 240 players on 60 teams and just as many parents and grandparents cheering them on…it was loud and fun! The day began around 7AM and ended at 7PM. However, due to the many wonderful volunteers and the amazing coordinators; Jim and MaryKay Petzold, it went smoothly! Thank you to all involved! Due to everyone’s participation this event raised over $5,000 for the Foundation programs. Thank you!!!

Please see the Thank You letter from coordinator Jim Petzold to all…..

On behalf of the David Petzold Memorial Foundation and myself, I would like to thank everyone for their generous support. Together we raised over $5,000 again this year. This would not have been possible without the players and all of the hard work from our volunteers. Our dedicated volunteers include the referees, the Pennridge Python parents (who operated the concession stand), the volunteers who worked the score tables, Greg Banis, Frank Demas, the Pennridge Yellowjacket board members, Mike Koch (for the goals and many other things), and of course my family. I would also like to thank Dave Cardie who generously donated his 50/50 winnings of $75. Again, thanks Dave! That was very kind of you to give your winnings back to the foundation. We sincerely appreciate it.

I look forward to seeing everyone again next year.

Thanks again,

If anyone has any pictures they would mind posted to the website…please forward them to odmpmf@gmail.com, as we forgot a camera this year! Thanks to all!
